    LinkedIn has two banners with different shapes. A personal profile cover is 4:1, while a company Page cover is much wider and shorter at 1512 × 256, which LinkedIn lists as both the minimum and the recommended size.

    The two frames are drawn to the same width so you can compare their shapes: 4:1 for a profile and about 5.9:1 for a Page.

    On a personal profile, LinkedIn's help says the cover image appears behind your profile photo. LinkedIn does not give the photo's exact position, so the circle is only a rough marker; check the preview before adding text.

    Personal profile or company Page?

    • Personal profile cover: 1584 × 396, 4:1, JPG or PNG up to 8 MB.
    • Company Page cover: 1512 × 256, JPG or PNG up to 3 MB. Smaller images are not accepted, since that is also the minimum.
    • Profile photo: 400 × 400 recommended, and photos up to 7680 × 4320 and 8 MB are accepted.
    • Company logo: 400 × 400 recommended, at least 268 × 268, up to 3 MB.

    Working around the profile photo

    Your personal banner sits behind your profile photo, so part of it is always hidden. Keep words and logos away from the area the photo covers, and look at the result on a phone too.

    A company Page cover is short, so text needs to be large and brief. One line, such as a tagline or a web address, usually reads better than several.

    • Make the personal banner at 1584 × 396 and keep it under 8 MB.
    • For a company Page, LinkedIn's help suggests a high resolution JPEG rather than a PNG.
    • Use the same colours on both banners if you manage a profile and a Page, so they look related.
    • Check the banner in the LinkedIn app as well as in a browser.

    • Reusing a 4:1 personal banner on a company Page, which is wider and crops its height.
    • Putting a headline where your profile photo covers it.
