What this tool does

This Reddit post formatter is a Markdown editor with a toolbar, a live preview and ready-made templates for posts and comments. It writes standard Reddit Markdown, so you can paste the result straight into Reddit's Markdown editor, and it checks your title and body against the length limits as you type. Everything runs in your browser.

How to format a Reddit post

Choose Post or Comment, or start from one of the templates.
Write your title and body, using the toolbar or Markdown for bold text, spoilers, lists, tables and code.
Check the live preview and the warnings panel for line breaks that will collapse or syntax that will not render.
Watch the counters so the title and body stay under the limits.
Copy the title and the Markdown, then paste them into Reddit with the Markdown editor selected.

Reddit formatting cheat sheet

Type the syntax on the left in Markdown mode. Most of it works the same on new and old Reddit, but a few items may differ, as noted.

Why Reddit line breaks disappear

In Markdown mode, pressing Enter once does not start a new line in the published post. Reddit joins the two lines into one paragraph, which is why carefully spaced text can come out as a single block.

Leave a blank line to start a new paragraph, or end a line with two spaces to keep a line break inside the same paragraph. The Fix line breaks button adds those two spaces for you and leaves code blocks, lists, tables and quotes alone.

The rich text editor handles Enter differently, so this mostly matters when you write or paste Markdown.

Reddit character limits

Reddit currently allows up to 300 characters in a post title. A text post can currently hold up to 40,000 characters, and a comment is currently capped at 10,000. Many subreddits set stricter rules of their own, so check the community rules before you post.

The counters next to each field track these limits as you type. They count an emoji or accented letter as one character, so Reddit's own count may differ slightly for unusual characters.

Reddit does not let you edit a post title after you publish, as far as we know, so check it before you submit.

How do I format a Reddit post?

Write it in the Reddit post formatter above using the toolbar or Markdown, check the live preview, then copy the Markdown into Reddit's Markdown editor. Paste the title into the title field separately.

How do I make text bold, italic or strikethrough on Reddit?

Wrap the text in two asterisks for bold (**bold**), one asterisk or underscore for italic (*italic*) and two tildes for strikethrough (~~strikethrough~~). Three asterisks on each side give bold italic.

How do I add a spoiler tag?

Put >! before the hidden text and !< after it, like >!the twist!<. Keep the spoiler inside one paragraph. It shows as a blurred block until someone taps it.

How do I make a table on Reddit?

Separate columns with pipes and add a separator row of dashes under the header, such as | --- | --- |. Colons in that row set the alignment. The Table button builds the skeleton for you.

Why are my line breaks not showing?

In Markdown mode, a single line break is joined into the same paragraph. Leave a blank line between paragraphs, or end a line with two spaces to force a break. The Fix line breaks button does this for you.
