What this tool does
This image splitter cuts one picture into smaller pieces, right in your browser. You can split an image into a grid, equal strips, tiles of an exact pixel size or printable pages for a poster. Each piece is saved as its own file, one at a time or all together in a ZIP.
Four ways to split an image
- Grid
- Set the number of columns and rows, from 1 to 20 each. Pieces are as equal as the pixels allow, at most 1 px apart, and no edge pixels are lost. Pick it for puzzles, grid posts or a set number of pieces.
- Equal parts
- Cut the image into 2 to 10 strips, either side by side or stacked. Pick it for panoramas, long screenshots or before and after halves.
- Tile size
- Enter a width and height in pixels and the image is cut into tiles of exactly that size from the top left. Leftover strips at the right and bottom can be kept as smaller tiles or dropped. Pick it for game sprites, tile sets or anything that needs exact dimensions.
- Print pages
- Choose a paper size and how many pages wide the print should be. The image keeps its pixels and is spread across pages shaped like the paper. Pick it for posters and wall art printed at home.
When to use it
- Social grids and carousels. For Instagram, the Instagram photo splitter numbers tiles in posting order and sizes them for the feed, and if you only need to resize an image for one post, use the resizer instead.
- Wall art and posters printed across several sheets of paper.
- Jigsaw-style puzzles, classroom activities and craft templates.
- Long screenshots or documents cut into page-sized pieces.
- Game sprites and tile sets that need an exact size in pixels.
- Cutting a panorama into equal parts.
How to use the image splitter
- Upload an image by clicking the upload area or dropping a file onto it. PNG, JPG and WebP work in modern browsers, and GIF, BMP or AVIF work if your browser can open them (GIFs use the first frame).
- Pick a mode: Grid, Equal parts, Tile size or Print pages, then set its options.
- Check the preview. The lines show where the image will be cut, and the pieces appear below with their pixel sizes.
- Choose PNG, JPG or WebP, and set the quality if you picked JPG or WebP.
- Download all pieces as a ZIP, or save single pieces with their download links.
Split an image for printing
Print pages mode does not crop or scale your image. It places the image in the top left corner and divides it into pages with the same shape as your paper, so every page has the same size.
Choose how many pages wide the print should be, and the tool works out how many pages down it needs. If the image does not fill the last row or column of pages, the extra space is filled with white, or left transparent for PNG and WebP.
Print each page at 100% scale with fit to page turned off, then trim the margins and tape the pages together in order. The file names include the row and column of each page.
- A4 (210 x 297 mm)
- A3 (297 x 420 mm)
- US Letter (8.5 x 11 in)
Which format should I choose?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it is in your image and supports transparency, but the files are larger. It is the safe choice for graphics, screenshots, pixel art and printing.
JPG makes much smaller files by compressing the image. For photos, a quality of around 85 to 95 usually looks very close to the original. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.
WebP is usually smaller than JPG at a similar quality and supports transparency. Most modern browsers and apps open it, but some older software does not.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split an image into equal parts?
Upload the image, open Equal parts, choose 2 to 10 parts and pick vertical or horizontal cuts. For a grid of equal pieces, use Grid mode and set the columns and rows instead.
How do I split an image into 4 parts?
Use Grid mode with 2 columns and 2 rows for four quarters, or Equal parts with 4 parts for four strips. Then download the pieces as a ZIP.
Can I split by exact pixel size?
Yes. In Tile size mode, enter a width and height in pixels. Tiles at the right and bottom edges may be smaller, and you can keep or drop them.
Does splitting reduce image quality?
Not with PNG output, which keeps the original pixels of every piece. JPG and WebP are compressed, so they make smaller files with some loss, which is usually hard to see at high quality settings.
How do I split an image to print a poster?
Open Print pages and choose the paper size, orientation and how many pages across. Download the pages, print each one at 100% scale with fit to page turned off, then tape them together.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image splitter runs in your browser, so your image never leaves your device.
Is there a size limit?
There is no fixed file size limit, because the work happens in your browser's memory. Very large images may be slow or fail on some phones, and each split is limited to 400 pieces.
Can I split an image for Instagram or X?
Yes, the pieces work anywhere. For Instagram profile grids, the Instagram photo splitter numbers tiles in posting order and sizes them for the feed. For X, check its current image guidelines, as supported sizes can change.
